Why choices were made

Decisions

Durable company and product choices, with their rationale, authority, consequences, and review triggers.

Decision records preserve reasoning that would otherwise disappear when people, projects, or tools change. They complement product documentation: product pages say what is true now; decisions explain why a durable boundary was chosen.

The public decision authority for records here is Rei, Founder & CEO, unless a record explicitly and evidentially names another decider. A machine-readable index is available at /decisions.json.

Status meanings

  • Proposed: open for decision; not yet a binding direction.
  • Accepted: current direction.
  • Superseded: replaced by a linked newer decision.
  • Rejected: considered but not chosen.
  • Retired: no longer applicable and not replaced.

Use the decision standard to decide when a record is warranted.
